While the rise of vinyl from .08% of the industry back in 2008 to somewhere over 7% in 2012 seem huge it might be much bigger since many releases don't have a UPC and the stores don't all SoundScan it might be more....
What we do know is that way back when vinyl was just something that us older folks did, philes will always and kids seeking to be different then all those white wired compression fans the vinyl releases were all independent.
Today to get an independent release into a store is harder then ever and with nearly zero support from our any elected officials for #USMADEMUSIC the Majors have been able to take what was once a day celebrating independent stores still selling Indie records and turned it into a rerelease fest of ancients greats meanwhile squeezein-out independent records.
So when you decedine on what to pickup during RecordStoreDay #RDSD13 makes sure you Buy Indie Support Locals since that's what this day is all about in the first place.
